Careers in Food and Nutrition Sciences

Graduates of The Âé¶¹US's Food and Nutrition Sciences program achieve a job placement rate exceeding 92%.  According to the  U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the median salary for entry level graduates is $78,000.  As with any profession, salaries and fees vary by region of the country, employment settings, and scope of responsibility.  Salaries increase with years of experience.  Students in the Food and Nutrition Sciences program are trained to work in a number of career settings such as:

  • Regulatory Affairs and Labeling
  • Quality Control and Quality Assurance
  • Research and DevelopmentSales and Marketing
  • Community Supported Agriculture Programs
  • Food Science

This degree will also provide students interested in pursuing a career as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with the necessary prerequisites for our Dietetics GP MPH program.

Careers in Dietetics 

According to Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics the median salary for entry level RDNs is $79,000 per year. As with any profession, salaries and fees vary by region of the country, employment settings, scope of responsibility and supply of RDNs. Salaries increase with years of experience and RDNs, in management and business, may earn incomes above $100,000.

If you choose dietetics as your career, you could find yourself doing one of the following jobs:

  • Counseling clients about their diabetes and helping them control their disease with good nutrition.
  • Working as part of a health care team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists, and other health care professionals to provide complete care for hospital or long-term care patients.
  • Directing a multimillion dollar foodservice operation.
  • Developing and managing feeding programs for diverse populations.
  • Working as a consumer affairs consultant for a restaurant or supermarket chain to help improve the nutritional quality of foods offered.
  • Managing nutrition services in a health and wellness center.
